Overview

This is one of the most common "ear candy" tricks in modern production. By aggressively cutting the lows and highs, you "trap" the sound in a narrow band of mid-frequencies. It’s used to create a sense of distance, nostalgia, or to make a section feel "small" so that the following part of the song feels massive by comparison. It's a staple for intros, bridges, and "answering machine" style vocal ad-libs.
